Another one shot :P

They had been best friends since the dawn of time. Here recently, the two have been hanging out more and getting to know each other more. I'm talking about Sonic the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat. The two were inseparable almost, the two were closer than peanut butter was to jelly. But as they grew closer, their feelings towards each other started to change.

They were both falling in love with each other.

They discovered this on a particularly chilly day in early December. Sonic was at home, running on his treadmill, which was at top speed. It was too damn cold to run outside. Sonic hated the cold. Suddenly then, Blaze ran in, and she was crying. "What's the matter!?" Sonic cried solicitously, jumping off the treadmill and going to his best friend and putting his arms on her shoulders.
"Silver broke up with me," Blaze wept.

Sonic paused here. He'd knew that Blaze and Silver had been dating for at least a month now. What had happened?

"Why? How?" Sonic asked.
"He told me he had feelings for someone else...and he ended it," Blaze wept.

Sonic embraced her. When they were close, they both felt a tingling inside. Sonic smiled. Blaze quit crying; she liked this. She liked being in his embrace. She felt so much better and comfortable. They held each other for awhile, swaying slightly. When they pulled away, Blaze quit crying.

"So will you be okay?" Sonic asked.
"Yeah...Silver was actually kind of a jerk to me. When he got mad, he took it out all on me," Blaze said.
"That's stupid."
"I know. He was never there for me."
"But I am."
"Huh?"
"I will be there for you. And I always will."
"Thanks."
"Hey what are friends for?"

Sonic smiled, but something inside him was clawing at him. A feeling that he was so desperate to let out, but he couldn't find a way to let it out. It made his stomach hurt and his heart beat fast. "Are you okay?" Blaze asked, seeing that Sonic had blanched.

"I'm a little...um, well, I just ran in place for ten minutes. My adrenaline is still racing," Sonic replied.
"Oh," said Blaze. She looked at him. He smiled merely. The same feeling was gnawing at Blaze's insides, too.

Sonic had to try something. He went to her.
"How do you feel, now?" He asked.
"I feel fine, thanks," Blaze replied.

Sonic put his hands on her shoulders.
"Close your eyes," he instructed her. When Blaze's eyes closed gently, Sonic approached her slowly and placed his hands on her face. He gently caressed her cheeks.

"Your hands are cold," Blaze stated. Sonic did not respond. He just continued to caress her cheeks.
"Do you like this?" he asked.

Blaze paused.
"Yeah," she said. She smiled as she felt his smooth touch.
"I'm not making you uncomfortable at all?" he asked.
"No."
Sonic smiled and continued to stroke her cheeks. Then he stopped and let his hands dropped.
"Will you be okay?" he said.

Blaze nodded. She put her arms around him. He smiled and returned the hug. They held each other again. Then a growling sound filled the air.
"Eh, I'm hungry," Sonic stated.
"Want to go out to eat?" Blaze asked.
"Are you asking me out?" a pink tinge appeared on Sonic's cheeks.
"Maybe I am," Blaze said.
Sonic sneered. They continued to hold each other. Blaze had completely forgotten about Silver; she didn't care anymore. All she cared about was being in Sonic's arms. She was comforted by his hugs and his warm body heat.

They walked to a restaurant in town. They walked closer to each other than usual. Was it because they were cold? Or was it because of love? Blaze wasn't sure if Sonic had feelings for her, though, but she had no idea how wrong she was. Sonic felt Blaze's hand tickle his. He looked at Blaze. Blaze looked at him. She gently grabbed his hand. Blaze watched Sonic's reaction. Sonic blushed slightly, but didn't object to this gesture. Blaze's heart beat faster with happiness. They walked into the restaurant and sat down. They let their hands break apart. They ate in silence, often watching each other. Neither made any movements. Then fifteen minutes later, with their stomachs full, they walked home, still silent. Neither made an attempt to grab the other's hand.

They got back to Sonic's house.
"How do you feel, now?" Sonic asked, breaking the silence ribbon that had been with them the past half hour.
"I feel much, much better," Blaze replied. Sonic smiled. Then he looked at the floor. Something has been bothering HIM. And he knew what it was.

"Blaze, we've been best friends for a VERY long time, and...well just here recently, I've changed a bit," Sonic said. Blaze nodded him on. "And, well, you see....I think I'm starting to grow closer to you. And...I mean, I know...I um...it's been....ah..." Sonic froze. Blaze looked at him with concern. It was very unlike him to stammer when he was talking to her; usually he felt very comfortable talking to her. What was going on?
"Sonic, are you ok?" Blaze said with concern.
"Blaze, I'd like to make some changes here...to our friendship," Sonic said.

Blaze's feelings melted. Sonic saw sadness starting to pool into her eyes. "Whoa! Whoa, Blaze, take it easy! It's nothing bad, I promise," Sonic said. His comforting voice cheered Blaze up somewhat, but she still felt hopeless inside. Was he ending their friendship? He watched her closely. He saw some sadness still lingering in her eyes. He grabbed both of her hands. He made direct eye contact with her and said, "My feelings for you are starting to get stronger. I'm starting to grow closer to you. I have something inside me that wants to be let out. And I think I want to let it out by making some changes to our friendship. But don't panic! It's all positive changes." He never left eye contact with her. He watched her blink fast a few times, as if she were sleep deprived. She watched him, too, and she was staring into his handsome emerald eyes that were twinkling in the light that hovered above.

"What I'm trying to say, Blaze, is that...I feel we can make us a relationship...call it, Sonaze, if you will?" Sonic asked.
"What? Sonaze? What's-?" Blaze asked.
"Get the connection? Son-" Sonic pointed to himself. "-aze," Sonic pointed to Blaze.
"Yeah? What about it?" Blaze asked.
"Sonaze is a connection between you and I. Stronger than a friendship, per say."

Blaze knew what he was getting at. Sonic saw something twinkle in her eyes; the sorrow had left her.
"Do you understand, now? You're very kind and outgoing, and you have a personality that fits my standards. I think, Blaze, that we will make an excellent couple! Our personalities fit like a puzzle piece, and we-" Sonic began, but Blaze flung herself at him and slammed her lips on his. The kiss only lasted two seconds before Blaze pulled away, as red as a tomato.

"Sorry," she announced.
"What's there to apologize about?" Sonic asked, a slight chuckle in his voice.
"Well...that was kind of uncalled for-"
"NAH!"
Sonic smiled his trademark smile and approached her and kissed her passionately. With each second into the kiss, their feelings for each other got stronger. And it was the way it was meant to be.

"I love you," Sonic told Blaze, his emerald eyes twinkling with passion.
"I love you, too," Blaze replied, her heart beating faster than Sonic could run.
"Walk with me." Sonic offered her his hand. She took it, feeling tingly inside.

Holding hands, they walked through Emerald Forest. Despite the chilling twenty degree temperature, they were both extremely warm. Not from the closeness of their bodies, but because of the closeness of their hearts, which warmed each other up and made them feel lovingly warm inside. They smiled at each other and shared a few laughs as they walked through some fallen leaves.

End <3
